This presentation celebrates the launch of Dr. Ahdieh’s newest book ‘From Canada to Mount Carmel’ , co-authored with Hillary Chapman, and will present highlights from the life of Mary Maxwell / Rúhíyyih Khánum.  You’ll see rare photos and hear stories on the life and contributions of Rúhíyyih Khánum from early childhood to her passing in 2000. It will include her marriage to Shoghi Effendi, their life during the Second World War, her extensive travel around the world on behalf of the Universal House of Justice and pivotal role in the advancement and sustenance of the Baha’i Faith over the years.

From Canada to Mount Carmel, from Handmaid to Hand of the Cause and devoted wife of Shoghi Effendi. Ahdieh and Chapman paint an exquisite written portrait of Ruhiyyih Khanum, from her precocious childhood, her qualities of devotion and outspokenness seen as a teen, and through her many years of service to the Bahá’í Faith—based on historical documents, as well as many personal letters, which will be new to many readers.

“The authors have undertaken an incredible task: to condense the life of one of the most important and charismatic Bahá’í figures of the 20th century into a narrative directed to youth everywhere. ‘Amatu’l-Bahá Rúhíyyih Khánum, author, playwright, filmmaker, poetess, Bahá’í ambassadress, and above all, wife of the Guardian of the Bahá’í Faith, Shoghi Effendi Rabbani, described by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá as the ‘sign of God’ on earth.” Dr. Duane Troxel

“This remarkable book is dedicated to youth all over the world. However, since it gives an inspiring and intimate look at the life of Ruhiyyih Khanum quoting from her personal diaries and those of Violette Nakhjavani, her closest companion, it deserves the attention of all who are interested in the Baha’i Faith.”  Judge Dorothy Nelson
